Episode 03
Summary: Somehow it’s a little bit boring in this round. Players were required to negotiate—not with some big bosses in business fields about millions in-and-out, but on retail stuff like leg wax or golf club, and who saved the most discount get to be the winner. Mr Trump announced the rule and I thought: Oh, God….you wanna men and women race on bargaining? The process and result neither made much surprise. Men lost the third round, and Mr Trump said: I think I’ll never hire a man into my company again. That makes sense, but I stand on the men’s side. They can never win with a goal of retail bagaining and Sam as their team leader.
Comment: Sam is out, which arouse a wave of approval on and behind the stage, I guess. And I couldn’t help but thinking of why didn’t Mr. Trump just do this much earlier? Now the Versacorp is in a really tough situation. They’ve lost two men who should’ve been much help to them, and on such a cost they sent away the third who messed up all the time. I believe they elected Sam the project manager out of strategy consideration. This is the only way to ensure Sam being fired, and they can’t afford any further lost. The unbalance of strength between men and women has grown terrible now. Probably these men never suffered such a failure to WOMEN. I can tell shame and, perhaps resentment, from their faces and words. Struggle guys, I pray for you. As to women, undercurrent are flowing beneath. There’s a tension between Omarosa and other women. Oma said: I know what’s power. And she said: I’ve come here to win. She declared that she don’t want to make friends with anyone. That’s kind of declaration rooted in feeling isolated and disliked. To tell the truth, why don’t make friends unless you’re unable to? And some endeavor to repair their relationship failed. However, they still worked well. Amy had expressed her anxiety about women hardly get over this emotional stuff while men can kick off them for the moment and go to job. I usually felt the same, but the fact proved not as bad. Those went with Omarosa in seperated team work seemed comfort her in some degree. That’s a good sign. No matter to men or women, the biggest chanllege always comes from people relations, not bussiness talent.

Pregraduate syndrome? ……And it's a lot better to have friends struggling even not for the same thing at the same time. It's so easy now to be overwhelmed by feelings of uncertainty and loneliness that one loses his faith and bravery, and I'm sure I know someone who surrendered their own belief to a certain but inferior future, who can now sit down leisurely and watch the rest of us still sunk in deathly helplessness. It's hard to tell which choice is better, really. And all I had done for the last 3 year was to ensure that by the end there's no any easy way for me to slack off. Whatever I wish to get now has to struggle hard for. It's truely very very hard now. My confidence has been rendered half and the fear double or even triple. I escaped, ran away, to find that it's a maze nowhere to get out until you either get yourself fixed or the time passed. Maybe one day I'll find it an enormous maze of life in which you can neither get yourself fixed nor watch the time passing off. But that's harsh for me to think at this time. I just put that thought down and tell it "I'll call you later". And your greetings always let me to put those calls later and later. Thank you.

Summary Round 2: The women were cheering, and the men were depressed. Again, they losed to the Portegee, this time on advertising. Mission for this time was about to make a full advertising subjected the marquis jet card, which is for those who wants to buy a jet for bussiness or touring. The proposal consisted of a magazine advertisement and a commercial. Amy and Jason ware respectively the project manager. They each had 48 hours to accomplish the whole program. And the products were quite different: women determined to show some delightful creation, yet much bold and piercing; Men were moderate, decent, in despite of their conservation. As the loser, men lost one more person in their team. That was Jason. As the team leader, he was mainly responsible for the result as he didn’t communicate with the president and manager of the flight company while women set off doing this. The lesson here is: deal with your boss when possible.
Comment: The campaign this time was much interesting. I noticed that you-are-fired selection was not as related to the result of campaign as it supposed to be, or, as I suppose it to be. It depends a lot on Mr Trump’s personal judgement. For example, Troy has made the crucial decision wrong in last round. But he was not the cast-away for someone else was more unfit for the job. And while I think Mr Trump judged people by personality, he picked out Jason for “he didn’t deal with the boss”. That made the ongoing competition rather unpredictable, thus, maybe more interesting. I’ve read a comment indicated that every time women win, they seem to win on sexuality. It was true during the two round by now. The advertisement they made this time was full of phallic symbols and temptatious implication, indeed very eye-catching and out of imagination. The manager stood on their side to support these creativity and ability agents, despite that he might not afford to really carry out their advertising plan. That was an occasional decision for men’s works were also great. What’s fun is that if the manager casually decided men’s group to be the champion, Mr Trump would have some other reasons to fire one of the woman, and what the reasons would be? It’s right that a businessman shall learn to deal with the boss. But it’s not a lesson taught here, not judging from the episode. And Sam was kept in still. Though everyone including the big boss admit that he’s a disaster and may never make a possible president. He stayed because he’s not much responsible for the very failure, but he made no value to anyone else. Another possible reason for his stay might be that he’s a good tester for those who want to be a next project manager. Leader has to learn to deal with him in order to prove themselves qualified.

EPISODE I
Summary: In this episode, Mr Trump began his first round of recruiting apprentice to join his corporation as a billion-priced president of one of his companies. 16 candidates, including 8 man and 8 women, joined in the skyscraper to start on with their own dream. They are coming from different backgrounds, from farm located in small town to metropolitan of New York, and varies in the education level from Harvard MBA to high school diploma. The age is between 21 to 35. They organized two teams, that of man and of woman, and name by themselves. Man’s team is the Versacorp, while women show more creativity in naming their team the Protègè. The first mission is to sell lemonade in one day, with initial fund of $250, and aiming at profit as much as possible. Men are started quickly in finding their first location and come to the selling. To the contrary, women waste much time on discussing how to begin and actually fall behind the competitor’s pace. But fact is that men pick up a wrong place, the beach which has few people, to spend most of their working time in a low vendition efficiency. And when they come to realize the shortage of location it’s almost dusk. By the time women has made a considerable income by selling lemonade in the busiest downtown of New York city, and they took an extra advantage by using sexual attraction. At last, the Protègè beat the Versacorp by $1000 to $500. Women get the prize of one hour touring in Mr Trump’s apartment. One of the men has been fired and leave the game, as the punishment.
Comment: The most difficult problem with a new-founded team is to decide who’s the leader. And in a test like “The Apprentice” everyone tries to show that he or she has certain potential of leadership. It’s better to say everyone is “forced” to show that they could be the leader, for they are competiting and trying to win a president position. That’s a leader position. Thus it’s David who was fired after the game, as he show neither intention nor potential in being the leader. He’s smart, obviously, and he do more than some others in the lemonade selling. He is a strong competitor of the leader’s seat, and he give it up on his own initiative. That’s a fatal mistake in such a game. Maybe it shall not be judged as a mistake. It dues to something in personal character. I myself could be David for I totally understand why he act so and share some essential factor in my style of handling things with him.The possibility is that if I attend in a game like the apprentice, I might be the first one to get fired for exactly same reasons as of David’s. But it’s not that people of our kind are unable to act a leader. I consider it different in every kinds of leadership, and one has to find the key element in his own leading style. As in our case, we are not going to work in a loud, pushing, aggressive way according to traditional view, but kind of cooperative, expressive, regulative manner through which we are the guiding one, or, the leader. I’m naturally loath of the compulsive fraction in the word “leader”.And I have to reflect on how to be a leader that I myself would appreciate, as David should do. Another interesting figure here in episode I is Sam, who is apparently aggressive, yearning for success, kind of creative (that try to sell lemonade for $1000 per cup via the ‘Trump’ concept), and terrible in cooperation and communication with team members. He survived the first round perhaps because he is a risktaker and has certain potential, or fun enough to pay further attention on. I’ll keep observing and watching in which round will he leave the game.
